Customer Reviews:

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp 42″ 85U came out on top, December 22, 2008
By  GQ (NJ) - See all my reviews

I did a lot of research between Sony, Toshiba, Samsung and Sharp.
After much research, I wanted to have a thin, light and clear LCD.
The one that met my goals were the Sharp brand. I was thinking about the 64U and the 65U, but this new 85U has the 120Hz refresh rate to smooth out action frames.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bargin, great TV, December 28, 2008
By  Don S (Western Pa.) - See all my reviews

After doing much research, I thought this TV was a great bargin. I’m not very tech savvy but I know a great picture when I see one. I also received a free Sharp BDHP21U Blu-ray disk player when I purchased this set and am very pleased with both. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch, great price, January 13, 2009
By  G. Poitras (philadelphia, pa) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

This TV is beautiful - the slim case is very nice looking and maximizes the viewing area. The picture quality is superb - 1080p / 120Hz, that is the best you can get right now….sports look awesome, no motion blurring. For some reason many other brands seem to jack up their price by several hundred dollars for the 120Hz, so the sharp is a best bargain.

MacWorld 2009 Updates

January 5th, 2009

By Maggie Shiels
Technology reporter, Macworld, San Francisco

Steve Jobs in front of sign about reports of his death
Despite rumours of his demise, Mr Jobs saw the funny side of things

The health of Apple boss Steve Jobs was a hot topic of conversation on the opening day of Macworld, the annual tech gathering of the Mac faithful.

Mr Jobs said his move not to present the Macworld keynote had set off a “flurry of rumours about my health, some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed”.

In a letter he revealed he was suffering from a “hormone imbalance.”

Macworld fans applauded his going public on the issue of his health, which has long been speculated about.

Mr Jobs’ appearance at the Apple World Wide Developers conference last year sparked things off when he went on stage looking thin and gaunt with his signature jeans and black turtle neck hanging from his slender frame.

‘Human being’

In a rare break from the norm, the notoriously private Mr Jobs talked about his health in a letter to try to put the rumour mill to rest.

Luiz Filipe Fonseca
Luiz remains sceptical about Steve Jobs and his health

“I’ve decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show,” he wrote.

He went on to reveal that he had been suffering from a hormone problem that had been “robbing me of the proteins my body need to be healthy”.

At Macworld in downtown San Francisco there was nothing but genuine backing for the man who has been credited with turning Apple into a market leader.

“He drives so much of what happens at Apple so I am glad he is going to be around for a while, though there is disappointment that he will not be doing the keynote,” said Bil Moorhead of Black Pixel Luminance.

His colleague Erik Fleuter echoed that sentiment:

“Steve Jobs is such a key figure in Apple and everything centres around him. This shows he is a human being too and not the demi-god he is made out to be. I’m glad to hear his health is in order.”

Not everyone was convinced.

“I’m not sure we are getting the whole truth,” said Luiz Felipe Fonseca of Insight Digital Signage from Brazil.

“The Apple community is very concerned about him and how his health reflects on the company and its stock price. But the fact he does not even show up to Macworld if he says he isn’t that ill represents to me that he is not okay and the statement he made does not totally convince me.”

‘Evolutionary not revolutionary’

As well as discussing Steve Jobs’s health, Mac fans also talked what products were likely to make headlines and why Apple was ditching Macworld after this year.

Jonathan Long at Macworld
Jonathan Long says he is excited to see what Apple will pull out of the hat

Apple has already stated that with 3.5 million people using Apple stores, trade shows such as this are no longer an effective forum for reaching customers.

First time Mac attendee Jonathan Long from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, says he understands Apple’s reasoning.

“They have many other conferences throughout the year and can call one whenever they want,” said the 17-year-old.

“Macworld without Apple won’t be as exciting that’s for sure and the keynote won’t be the same without Steve who I was dying to see.”

There is some hope that when Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, Phil Shiller, takes the stage tomorrow, he will give the Macworld audience something to cheer despite suggestions that there will be no big announcement from the company.

In the past, Mr Jobs has used to show to launch products like the iPhone and the iPod turning the event into a must-have ticket for Apple lovers.

“I follow the rumours and so do a lot of my co-workers and while everyone is saying there won’t be a big announcement, I think there will because it’s been relatively quiet this season and I do think there will be something big,” said Grayson West of the Omni Group in Seattle.

“I hope it’s something like a smaller iPhone. That would be pretty huge,” suggested Mr West.

Bil Moorhead is hoping for “something that expands the iPhone. Makes it bigger.”

“I think we are looking at something evolutionary not revolutionary,” he speculated.

Macworld poster
Macworld organisers are already promoting the future without Apple

Andreas Varga of Guerrilla Games in Amsterdam agrees.

“Only one out of every two, three or even five years is there really a revolutionary product. Two years ago it was the iPhone and the original Mac way before that. Last year’s Mac Air book was an evolutionary product. It was just made lighter and thinner,” he said.

“It doesn’t have to be revolutionary to be a good product,” concluded Mr Varga.

His girlfriend Sonja Geyer of the Kerry Group in Amsterdam was of a similar mind.

“People love Apple and they care about the product and as long as it is good and leaves the user feeling good, the company will win.”

The New Bachelor - What’s His Big Surprise?

January 5th, 2009

by Jennifer Jordan

Categories: Just for dads, That’s entertainment

Jason Mesnick

Will you be watching this season’s offering of The Bachelor? No doubt you’re aware of the series, which, with all its red roses allows a single guy to (hopefully) find the gal of his dreams, at least as far as reality television is concerned. Say what you will about the truthfulness of the relationships formed on the show, which along with sister program The Bachelorette has been on for what will be thirteen seasons, but if you’ll recall the first bachelorette, Trista, met and married her man Ryan and they’re still married, with two kids. Aww!

This season’s Bachelor, however, featuring Jason Mesnick, has a twist. That twist is Tyler, who happens to be the bachelor’s son, and who is prevalent in the goings on of the show (at least what I can see from the ad promos). Not only is the Jason looking for true love, but also a mother figure for his son. Good luck with that one, ladies! I wonder if this means the show’s producers are trying for more of a family feel to the programming–and by ‘family feel’ I mean less trashy sleeping around with all the contestants in hot tubs.

I’m sure the addition of an adorable child was done no doubt to boost ratings. It also might just open the door to a new audience, like me, who are interested to see how all this business will play out when there is a child involved. Now, I know the whole thing with reality television being, well, not real, in a lot of instances. This concerns me as the child involved may not fully understand what’s going on. What’s more, he could be disappointed or saddened by the outcome–will Jason choose the woman that makes the best wife or pick the woman Tyler thinks is the best and therefore might be a better match? More to the point, is it all right to play with a child’s emotions…on national television?

So, are you gonna watch or what? I’ll probably check it out, but will probably pass because I don’t want to see a little kid get manipulated just to stimulate ratings.

 By Alex Freedman
WNCT.com Online Producer
Published: January 1, 2009A local high school will be hosting the FIRST Robotics Competition kickoff along with 42,000 other students from around the world.

It may be called “FIRST,” but this is the second consecutive year South Central High School has hosted the FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition kickoff coming up this Saturday, Jan. 3rd.

Pitt County’s only FIRST Robotics Team, the Pitt Pirates, along with teachers, mentors, and local sponsors will be kicking off the competition in the high school’s Media Center at 10:00 a.m. by watching a live broadcast held via satellite by NASA from FIRST headquarters in Manchester, NH.  45 other schools, including over 42,000 students, from around the world will also witness the competition’s kickoff via satellite.

During NASA’s feed, students will be informed of the criteria for building their robot, and will have six-weeks to design and build their robot for competition.
In March, the Pitt Pirate’s robot, named Virginia, will compete at the FIRST NASA/VCU Regional Competition and hopefully move on to compete against high schools from all across the U.S., Canada, and Europe at the FIRST National Competition in April.

Latest Sport Betting News: OffshoreInsiders.com Confirms GodsTips Bowl …

January 1st, 2009

Whether you are watching Reebok hockey or the USC football coaches try to hold on and give forensic sports handicapping founder Stevie Vincent a winner in far and away his biggest pick of the bowl season, the USC Trojans led by Mark Sanchez, we have great news: the best is yet to come.

What’s G? It’s GodsTips, led by Grandmaster sports handicapper Joe Duffy and they have confirmed that Friday, January 2 is the biggest bet of the bowl season by any handicapper anywhere. It’s the 2008-09 Bowl Game of the Year. It will be as easy as Georgia over Hawaii, which was last year’s version.

GodsTips is already 6-2 with bowl Wise Guys (6-1 with Wise Guy bowl sides).  Joe Paterno and Penn State football scored a bit more than we thought and handed us a rare loss on the total. However, Nebraska earlier in the day was our latest side. We remain hotter than the USC cheerleaders and Kari Bryon combined.

It’s non-stop winning at GodsTips, anchor of OffshoreInsiders.com.  December 30 it was Oregon as the Bowl Underdog Game of the Year. On Dec. 20, Arizona was the Pre Christmas Bowl Game of the Year.

Nov. 22 Penn State wins as the Big 10 Game of the Year. Nov. 16 the 49ers in a rout were our NFC Game of the Year, fresh on the heels of Maryland our ACC Game of the Year the day before. Nov. 10 our MNF Total of the Year on the 49ers over was easy. On Nov. 1 Temple wins as our Nonconference Game of the Year and California as our Pac 10 Game of the Year! On Oct. 19 the Raiders outright were our AFC Game of the Year. On Oct. 11, it was Florida as our CBS Game of the Year. Oct. 5, the Colts over was our AFC Total of the Year. Monday, Nov. 10 the 49ers over was the Monday Night Total of the Year.

Dec. 14 Carolina obliterates Denver as the NFL Game of the Year.  On Dec. 7 hit with Florida as the College Football Game of the Year. On Dec. 7 it was the Seahawks as the Sunday Game of the Year and on Dec. 8 Carolina the Prime Time Game of the Year—a total sweep.

Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreet need to stop kissing Keyshawn Johnson and make sure he’s not on the other side if this burial.

Check out OffshoreInsiders.com later Thursday night as the entire card for GodsTips is released for Friday.
